E-Houses

What are E-Houses?

E-Houses are prefabricated, self-contained modular buildings that house low- and medium voltage electrical equipment and systems. They are commonly used in industrial and utility settings where electrical distribution, control, and protection systems need to be centralized and protected from environmental conditions.

E-Houses are a cost-effective, low-risk alternative to conventional concrete block or brick buildings. They are sized and designed around the electrical equipment site footprint limitations and logistics considerations, as well as the interfacing requirements of the end user.

Characteristics and applications of E-Houses

  • Modularity: E-Houses are manufactured off-site and then transported to the location where they are needed. This reduces construction time and costs.
  • Electrical equipment housing: E-Houses are used to house a wide range of electrical equipment, including switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, control panels, and other components necessary for electrical distribution and control.
  • Protection: E-Houses are built to overcome problematic environmental conditions, such as extreme temperatures, humidity, dust, and even explosion hazards. They are constructed with materials that provide good insulation and corrosion resistance.
  • Space optimization: E-Houses optimize the use of space while providing easy access for maintenance and operation of electrical equipment. This reduces the footprint required for electrical installations.
  • Customization: E-Houses can be customized to meet the specific needs of a project. This includes the layout of electrical equipment, the type and capacity of transformers switchgear, and control panels, and the inclusion of safety features, such as fire suppression systems.
  • Rapid set up: E-Houses can be set up quickly, which is highly advantageous in situations where there is a need for temporary or emergency electrical infrastructure.
  • Remote locations: E-Houses are often used in remote or off-grid locations where access to conventional infrastructure is limited. They can house equipment needed for power generation, distribution, and control in such areas.

What industries use E-Houses?

E-Houses are used in industries where centralized and secure housing for electrical equipment and systems is required, including:

  • Oil and gas: Oil and gas companies often use E-Houses to contain electrical equipment and control systems for drilling, production, and processing operations.
  • Mining: Mining operations use E-Houses to centralize and protect electrical equipment used for mining machinery and mineral processing.
  • Utilities: Electric utilities deploy e-houses in substations and power generation facilities to house critical electrical infrastructure including control panels.
  • Manufacturing: E-Houses are used in manufacturing plants to house and distribute electricity to industrial machinery, automation systems, and other production equipment.
  • Renewable energy: E-Houses are essential in renewable energy projects, such as solar and wind farms, to house inverters, transformers, and control systems for power distribution and conversion.
  • Infrastructure: Large infrastructure projects, such as airports, bridges, and water treatment plants, rely on E-Houses for electrical distribution, monitoring, and control.
  • Data centers: Data centers use E-Houses to house electrical infrastructure, including backup generators and distribution systems, to ensure uninterrupted operation of critical IT equipment.
  • Telecommunications: Telecommunications companies employ E-Houses to protect and house electrical and power backup systems for network equipment, ensuring uninterrupted communication services.
  • Emergency and disaster relief: In emergency situations and disaster relief efforts, E-Houses can be rapidly deployed to provide temporary electrical infrastructure for essential services, such hospitals, relief camps, and communication centers.
